
PATNA: The vigilant sleuths raided the four-storey house of the executive engineer of the Rural Works Department (Masaurhi Division) Ajay Kumar Singh in Indrapuri in Patna on Saturday and found disproportionate assets (DA) worth more than Rs 4 crore owned by were gathered from him.
The vigil yielded Rs 95 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewelery worth Rs 66.51 lakh, deposits in the post office and other places worth Rs 81 lakh and deeds and documents related to the purchase of 12 properties.
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau had registered an FIR against Singh on Friday for amassing DA worth Rs 81.63 lakh. It issued a search warrant and carried out the raid around 8 a.m. The raid lasted 12 hours. The estimated DA rose to Rs 4 crore after the raid and is expected to rise further.
The vigilant detectives were surprised when the money began to tumble from small cardboard boxes and suitcases kept in the wardrobe and almirah.
Alert sources said a currency counting machine had been ordered to count the money. The government-authorized appraiser was later called in to determine the value of gold and silver jewelry.
“A total of 1,295 kg of gold and 12 kg of silver ornaments, including three stones weighing 2.7 kg, were recovered,” a source said, adding that 20 passbooks from different banks were found during the raid.
“Documents related to seven vehicles, including two SUVs and four bicycles, were also recovered,” a senior officer said, while adding 12 properties to the vigilante had knowledge of at least nine worth Rs 1.13 crore.
“These nine properties include the Indrapuri house valued at Rs 50 lakh as per the deed value. The house is in the name of Singh’s wife Alka Kumari,” he said.
“Vigilance has learned about a plot in Bairiya in Patna worth Rs 40 lakh. Singh and his wife own at least four flats and lots in Patna and Punpun,” he said.
Sources said Singh was hired on June 30, 1995.
