The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed all degree programs and colleges to accept diplomas, transcripts and other documents available in DigiLocker accounts as valid documents.
“As you know, the National Academic Depository (NAD) is an online repository of academic awards (degrees and lists of marks) submitted by the academic institutions in digital format. It allows students to get authentic documents and certificates in digital format directly from their original publishers anytime, anywhere, without any physical intervention,” the UGC said in a letter to the varsities.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has designated the UGC as an authorized body to implement NAD as a permanent user-fee-free scheme in conjunction with the Digilocker as a single custodian of NAD.
Academic institutions can self-register and upload their institution’s academic awards on NAD through the Digilocker NAD portal.
The Digilocker platform of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has the ability to place the student’s gradebook and other documents in electronic form in the issued documents section after being uploaded by the original publisher through the DigiLocker NAD platform . These electronic records available on the DigiLocker platform are valid documents under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
“In order to extend the reach of the NAD programs, all academic institutions are requested to accept diplomas, transcripts and other documents available in issued documents in DigiLocker account as valid documents,” it added.
