Rohtas Boy Wins BPSC Exam, Assistant Engineer Takes 2nd Place

PATNA: Gourav Singh of Rohtas district tops the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 65th Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), the results of which were released on Thursday. Chanda Bharti and Varun Kumar came in second and third respectively.
Gourav, who had been preparing for the exam for the past three years, told this reporter over the phone from Pune: “I was offered a job in the social department of Bihar, but I declined because I wanted to become a civil servant. I couldn’t break the preliminaries on my first attempt, but the second time I finished 142nd. Becoming the BPSC topper came as a surprise to me.”
After earning a mechanical engineer degree from KIT, the 28-year-old tried to pass the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam but failed. However, he has decided to try again in 2022.
Gourav, whose mother Sati Singh is a government teacher in Sasaram, said he had solved online test series and relied on self-study. However, he did not follow any syllabus.
On the other hand, Chanda, an assistant engineer who worked at the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited in Gaya, took the second position in her second attempt. Born to Vivekanand Yadav, an assistant engineer in Jharkhand, and Kundan Kumari, a government teacher, she didn’t expect to perform so well.
“Instead of joining a coaching institute, I followed a strict study plan. However, I had no set time or duration. I just set a goal to finish the syllabus and achieve my goal,” Chanda said, adding that she wanted to pass the UPSC exam next year.
While Varun from Nalanda took third place, Sumit Kumar from Madhubani was fourth. Avinash Kumar Singh from Samastipur (5th), Aditya Shrivastava from Jharkhand (6th), S Prateek from East Champaran (7th), Aditya Kumar from Bhojpur (8th), Anamika from Gopalganj (9th), and Ankit Kumar from Bhagalpur (10th ) also cracked the exam.
BPSC chairman RK Mahajan claimed that the results of the 64th and 65th CCE were announced in record time. “This year, as many as 422 candidates passed the exam,” he added.
