
PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday asked officials of the Road Construction Department (RCD) and Rural Works Department (RWD) to hold mutual talks and prepare the state’s first maintenance policy.
Nitish chaired a meeting to review the maintenance policies of the RCD, RWD and the Building Construction Department (BCD), via videoconferencing from the ‘Sankalp’ hall of the CM residence, and further asked the officials of the three departments to review the work plan. of their respective departmental maintenance policies as early as possible.
When reviewing the maintenance work performed by different departments, the CM also emphasized that maintenance work should only be performed by the department engineers and not by private entities and contractors.
Furthermore, he called on the engineers to take an active role in the proper maintenance of roads in the state. “Maintenance of roads by the engineers of the department would not only improve the quality of the works, but also reduce expenditure,” Nitish said, urging the RCD and RWD engineers to carry out the maintenance work with complete dedication.
He also said: “From the chief engineer to the junior engineer – everyone should be involved in the inspection work. They all have to perform the inspection work properly to ensure the quality of the works on roads and government buildings.”
Nitish was a qualified engineer himself and also said that the department’s better road maintenance improves the prestige of engineers in the society. “If you do the road maintenance work in a good way and visit the construction sites regularly, the people who live in those areas will give you more respect and credit,” the CM told the engineers.
The CM also said that any negligence in the maintenance work would not be tolerated and that tough action would be taken against those found to be negligent.
Earlier, the Additional Chief Secretary (Road Construction) Pratyaya Amrit, the RWD Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal and the BCD Secretary Kumar Ravi gave a detailed presentation to the CM on their respective maintenance policies.
