As Covid cases in the state begin to decline, the government of Odisha has decided to reopen schools and colleges across the state from February 7.
The announcement was made by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra at a press conference on February 3. He announced that physical classes for students from grades 8 to 12, colleges, universities and other technical educational institutions will reopen from Feb. 7.
Classes for students from KG to 7 are scheduled to reopen from Feb. 14, the Chief Secretary said.
This announcement came a few days after Odisha’s Higher Education Department was forced to release an official statement against a fake message circulating on the internet. “A fake letter is circulating in social media that supposedly conveys the decision of the Higher Education Department to reopen colleges and universities from February 10, 2022. It is hereby clarified that such a decision has not been taken by the state government,” the ministry clarified on the social media platform Twitter.
The false message stated that the department had decided to reopen the higher education institutions from February 10. The clarification was given on January 31, 2022.
As the number of Omicron cases increased, the government of Odisha had decided to close all schools, colleges and other educational institutions – except the medical colleges/nursing schools and institutions supervised by the Health and Family Welfare Department will be closed for physical attendance – on January 7
