List of new UG and PG courses launched by IGNOU in January 2022

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in distance learning and online mode. The varsity introduces a plethora of new courses each year, further expanding the number of programs offered. As of the new session of January 2022, the university has added new RUG and PG programs to the list.

To ensure that Indian students learn the nuances of languages, IGNOU has introduced courses such as BA Urdu and Sanskrit, and MA English. In addition, there have also been several additions in MA programs such as corporate social responsibility, journalism and mass communication, and many more.

Here are some of the recently launched IGNOU courses:

MA English in Online Mode

Master of Arts (English) via Online Mode (MEGOL) was launched by IGNOU. Anyone with a bachelor’s degree or higher degree from a recognized university is eligible for this program.

The two-year program provides students with an understanding of English and American literature as well as other emerging areas of literature such as Canadian, Australian and Indian English.

The fee is Rs 13,600 for the full program which is to be paid annually – Rs 6,800 per year.

PG Diploma in Migration and Diaspora

IGNOU’s School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies has launched a Post Graduate Diploma in Migration and Diaspora (PGDMIDI).

The duration of the program is one year and includes both theoretical and project work. The course fee is Rs 6100 and the registration fee is Rs 200. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognized university can apply for this course.

BA Sanskrit

IGNOU’s School of Humanities has launched Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Sanskrit (BASKH). This will be a three year program and is Hindi medium.

Anyone who has successfully completed Class 12, under any board, can apply for this course.

The course fee is Rs. 3900 per year and the registration fee is Rs. 200 at the time of recording.

BA Urdu

Anyone who has successfully completed Class 12 under a board or other equivalent degree can apply for this course.

The course is designed to give an in-depth understanding of the Urdu discipline while allowing for the opportunity to explore topics outside the discipline. Students are given a choice of core and elective courses.

The course feel is Rs. 3900 per year, and the registration fee is Rs. 200 at the time of recording.

MA Program in Corporate Social Responsibility

IGNOU’s School of Extension and Development Studies launched the Master of Arts (Corporate Social Responsibility) (MACSR) program as a two-year program.

This course is designed for CSR professionals across India and for graduate/postgraduate students interested in pursuing a career as a CSR professional.

Applicants who have successfully completed their undergraduate degree from a recognized university are eligible to enroll in this course. IGNOU will begin the registration process for this course in July 2022. The course fee is Rs. 14,400, of which Rs. 7200 is to be paid in the first year and Rs. 7200 in the second year.

Bachelor of Social Work (online)

IGNOU’s School of Social Work has launched the Bachelor of Social Work Online Program as a three-year program.

This course is designed for those interested in providing professional assistance to those in need. Individuals with a professional education/degree in social work are generally employed in socially relevant areas.

Anyone who has successfully completed grade 12 or an equivalent degree is eligible for the program. The course fee is Rs. 17,700, plus Rs. 200 as entry fee. The fee is to be paid per year of Rs. 5900 a year. In the first year, registration fee of Rs. 200 will be charged.

MA in Journalism and Mass Communication

School of Journalism and New Media Studies launched Master of Arts (Journalism and Mass Communication). This is a two-year program taught in English. Students pay Rs.12,500 per year as course fees and an enrollment fee of Rs. 200.

Interested candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline. In addition, those who successfully complete the PG Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication (PGJMC) from IGNOU are eligible for lateral entry into the second year of MAJMC. They only have to take the courses of the second year. The minimum and maximum duration of the program for students entering via ‘lateral entry’ is one year and two years respectively.

MA Environmental and Occupational Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental and Occupational Health

The School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies, IGNOU, has launched MA Environmental and Occupational Health (ODL mode) and Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental and Occupational Health (online).

For both degrees, interested applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline.

Master of Arts (Environmental and Occupational Health) is a two-year program taught in English.

The course fee is Rs. 13200 and students have to pay Rs. 200 as the registration fee in the first year.

Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental and Occupational Health (online) is a one year program and the course fee is Rs. 6600 for the full program.

MBA program

IGNOU’s School of Management Studies (SOMS) has launched the Master of Business Administration (Online) program.

Interested candidates can visit the official IGNOU website — ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in and ignouiop.samarth.edu.in — and register for the respective programs. This course is approved by AICTE.

Students have options of five different specializations, such as: Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, and Services Management. They will have to take 28 courses spread over four semesters and have 116 credits.

The minimum duration of the program is two years and the maximum duration is four years.

BCA and MCA (online)

The School of Computer and Information Sciences has launched BCA and MCA programs in online mode.

MCA is a two-year course and students are required to pay Rs. 12,000 per semester. In addition, an entry fee of Rs. 200 will also be paid along with the cost of the first semester.

For MCA, interested candidates must have passed BCA/B.Sc (Computer Science/IT)/Bachelor in Computer Science and Engineering or equivalent degree with at least 50 percentage points in Bachelor’s degree (45 percentage points in case of candidates belonging to the reserved category). Or they must have a bachelor’s degree of at least three years from a recognized university with at least 50 percentage points (45 percentage points in the case of candidates belonging to the reserved category and Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10 + 2 level or graduation level .In addition, these students must enroll and successfully complete two bridging courses, namely MCS-201 (C and Python Programming) and MCS-208 (Data Structures and Algorithm) from IGNOU, along with the Master of Computer Applications program. They will take an additional fee of Rs 2000 along with the fee for the first semester.

BCA is a three-year program and anyone who has successfully completed grade 12 or an equivalent degree is eligible to take the course. The fee is Rs. 42,000 for the full program, which is to be paid per semester (Rs. 7,000 per semester).

Candidates who have completed the bachelor’s degree with 50 percent points for the general category and 45 percent for the reserved category can be admitted to this program without an entrance test.
