IGNOU introduces MA in Sustainability Science, check course details here

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a Master’s of Arts in Sustainability Science (MASS) course. This program will be offered through the School of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies in ODL mode from January 2022 admission cycle. IGNOU claims that MASS is the first of its kind in India with the aim of achieving sustainability education in all walks of life. In accordance with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the program focuses on holistic and multidisciplinary education and adopts lateral entry and multiple exit options. After successful completion of the first-year courses, the program is delivered with a Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability Science.

MASS was launched with the aim of providing students with opportunities to deepen their knowledge and understanding of sustainable development and the principles of sustainability science. It will also enable students to expand learners’ capacities on various theoretical and practical aspects of sustainable development, as well as develop professional knowledge and skills in formulating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating sustainable development projects and programs.

Remuneration and Eligibility

The fee for the whole program is Rs 7000 per year. Interested candidates must have successfully graduated in any discipline from a recognized university.

This program consists of 15 theoretical subjects (nine in the first year and six in the second year) and a project in the second year. Both years have 36 credits.

Lateral access (for PGDSS by university standards) is also allowed in the second year; details about the same are available on the official website.
