Government school students in Jharkhand will soon receive special residential coaching for National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), Olympiads and Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) under scheme.
Free coaching for National Defense Academy (NDA) test preparation will also be added to the Aakanksha program soon, an official release said on Sunday.
“Prime Minister Hemant Soren has approved this proposal from the School Education and Literacy Department. Now it will be submitted to the state cabinet for approval,” it said.
A total of 100 students will be selected for the NTSE and Olympiads special residential coaching. Twenty-five students each from grades 7, 8, 9, and 10 are chosen for the two tests. NTSE is a national-level scholarship study while Olympiads are competitions held by private organizations that test one’s knowledge in subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, and Computer.
For CLAT, the law college admissions test, 100 students — 50 each from grades 11 and 12 — will be selected, the release said.
The students are selected for supervision on the basis of entrance exams.
The education department had started the Aakanksha program in 2016-17 to provide free coaching for medical and technical entrance exams to those government school students who do not receive proper guidance for the tests due to financial constraints and the unavailability of suitable teaching materials.
So far, 92 students have passed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, 11 have passed JEE Advanced and 64 have passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) under the Aakanksha program, the release said.
JEE Main is a full Indian exam for admission into various engineering undergraduate programs in engineering while JMM Advanced is held to admit students into IITs only. Students who wish to enter medical colleges must qualify for NEET examination.
