Dual-degree, BSEB exams, CUET in DU and more: Top education news last week

UGC chairman held a session to talk about the introduction of dual degree programs in physical mode and physical violence in JNU. IIT Roorkee also opened the admission form for JAM 2022 and much more – here is a recap of the biggest happenings from the education sector.

UGC chairman

One of the biggest developments in the education sector is that the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced on Tuesday that students can now take two full-time academic programs in physical mode. “At the last committee meeting on March 31, it was decided to issue guidelines that will allow students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously, as the NEP 2020 emphasizes the need to enable multiple learning paths involving both formal and non-formal education. are involved, in that a combination of the physical model, as well as the online form, should be used to give the students more freedom to acquire multiple skills,” said UGC President, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar.

Speaking of JNU violence, the UGC chairman said that “any form of violence should be avoided”. “Each university has its own safety and security guidelines. When such incidents occur, the administration investigates the reasons for them. The government will investigate all aspects of such incidents and ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the future,” said Kumar, the vice chancellor of JNU before he held the highest position of the UGC’s chairman.

CUET

Speaking of UGC, a few days after the CUET registration began, the University of Delhi’s St Stephen’s College has announced that it will conduct interviews with a 15 percent weight for admission of students of all categories. St Stephen’s College is one of the six minority colleges in the University of Delhi that reserve 50% of their seats for minority candidates. While the college issued various limits for minority and general candidates, it also conducted interviews to select its students from the shortlisted candidates through limits for both categories of students.

TS EAMCET 2022

This week, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad relaxed the eligibility criteria to appear for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET 2022). As in 2021, the criteria of 25 percent weighting for inter-markers when calculating the TS EAMCET score has been removed by the JNTU. In addition, the minimum score criteria for participation in the EAMCET have been abolished for this year.

Tuition fees for technical institutes

Another big development that has taken place this week is that the limit on tuition fees charged by technical and technical institutes is about to change, with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) sending a revised fee structure, including a proposed minimum rate limit, to the Ministry of Education. This decision came seven years after a committee of experts first recommended an upper limit that institutions can charge as tuition, but until now there has been no lower limit or minimum amount.

JAM 2020

IIT Roorkee has released the Joint Admission Test for Master (JAM) 2022 admission form on JAM official website — joaps.iitr.ac.in† Candidates have until 11 May to complete the JAM 2022 application form. The application for admission based on JAM 2022 is to be submitted online through the candidate portal by paying a non-refundable application fee of Rs 600 (additional bank charges may apply depending on the method of payment).

IIM-A logo change

The Board of Governors (BoG) of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has decided to postpone the launch of the new logo, business school board chairman and noted industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla announced on Wednesday. This comes after some of the faculty members objected to the change of the logo earlier this month in a letter to the Executive Board.

BSEB Inter exams

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has released admission cards for Bihar Board inter (class 12) compartment and special exams on inter22spl.biharboardonline.com† The exams are scheduled from April 18 to April 20, 2022. Admission cards can be downloaded from the official website until April 20, 2022. School authorities should download student admission tickets and give them to children after signing and putting the official stamp on the admission tickets.
