new delhi: There is good news for the students across the country. The race with over 90% points in 12th place has relief. There used to be stress among the students to get more percentage for university admission, but now the new system has been implemented. Now, no weight is given to the marks obtained in the Board Examination i.e. 12th for admission into the undergraduate courses of all the Central Universities. Yes, for undergraduate admission in central universities and affiliated colleges, the 12th marks no longer affect the admission of students except the eligibility criteria. These rules will come into effect from the 2022-23 academic session. The University Grants Commission (UGC) announced Monday that admission of students to undergraduate courses at central universities this year will be based on grades obtained in the University Joint Entrance Test (CUET). However, the universities are allowed to determine the minimum suitability on the basis of the grades of the board examination.
The Chair of the University Grants Commission (UGC), M Jagadesh Kumar, has announced that CUET will be conducted in the first week of July. Kumar said, “From the academic year 2022-23, the National Examination Board will conduct CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. All central universities will have to consider the marks obtained in CUET for admission into their courses. 45 central universities receive funding from UGC. Kumar said CUET’s syllabus will be similar to NCERT’s class 12 syllabus. CUET has Section-1A, Section-1B, General Exam, and Course Specific Topics. Section-1A will be mandatory which will be in 13 languages and candidates can choose the language of their choice.
Kumar said students have a choice of English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. The UGC president says CUET will have no impact on university reservation policies. He said no central guidance will be conducted after CUET.
