CUET 2022: All you need to know about the registration process

The registration process for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 will begin on April 6, 2022 for central university admissions for the 2022-23 academic session. This newly introduced entrance exam has caused quite a stir, but candidates still have some doubts about this.

What is the application deadline for CUET?

The online application form for CUET 2022 will be made live on the official website of CUET — cuet.samarth.ac.in — on April 2 and is available until April 30, 2022.

What documents are needed to apply for CUET?

Candidates are required to have the following list of documents ready for the CUET 2022 application process.

— Markblad class 10 and 12

— Scanned passport photo

— Scanned image of the signature

— ID proof (Aadhar card, driver’s license, passport, etc.)

— Caste certificate (if applicable)

When is the CUET 2022 exam?

While a set exam date has not yet been announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA), it has been announced that the exam will be held in July 2022. Once the date is finalized, NTA will notify the students through the official CUET website – cuet.samarth.ac.in

What is the syllabus for CUET?

The President of the UGC has repeatedly made it clear that students do not need to self-register for additional coaching classes or purchase additional books in order to pass the CUET exam. The questions of this entrance exam will be based purely on the syllabus taught to students in schools in grade 12. Students only need their assigned NCERT books to prepare for CUET 2022.

Exam method

CUET 2022 will be run in a Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. It is held in 13 languages ​​namely Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi and Urdu. Moreover, a candidate can also choose from 19 other languages ​​such as French, German, Japanese, Russian, Bodo, Santhali and many more.

Sections of test

— Section I

The CUET 2022 exam is divided into two different language sections:

Section IA is a compulsory 45 minute section designed to test the students’ mastery of the English language and any Indian language – to be chosen from Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia.

Section IB will be attempted by students seeking admission into undergraduate foreign language programs. Under this section, students are required to choose from a list of 19 languages: French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese .

— Section II

This section assesses a student’s understanding of the core subjects he/she wishes to take in their undergraduate programs. Candidates are given 45 minutes to solve 40 questions from a choice of 50.

In this part, students are allowed to choose six of the 27 subjects, namely Accountancy/Bookkeeping; Biology/Biological studies/Biotechnology/Biochemistry; business studies; Chemistry; Computer Science/Computer Science Practices; Economics/ Business Economics; graphic engineering; Entrepreneurship; Geography/Geology; History; home science; Knowledge tradition and practices of India; legal studies; environmental science; Math; Physical Education/NCC/Yoga; Physics; political science; Psychology; Sociology; teaching ability; Agriculture; Mass Media/ Mass Communications; Anthropology; Fine Arts/Fine Arts (Sculpture/Painting)/Commercial Arts; Performing Arts – (i) Dance (Kathak/ Bharatnatyam/ Odissi/ Kathakali/ Kuchipudi/ Manipuri (ii) Drama- Theater (iii) Music General (Hindustani/ Carnatic/ Rabindra Sangeet/ Percussion/ Non-Percussion); Sanskrit.

— Section III

The last part of CUET 2022 is designed to test a student’s general knowledge. This is not a mandatory component, however, as it will be attempted by students whose choice of undergraduate program requires an assessment of general knowledge rather than simply the hard testing of domain-oriented subjects. Students will have one hour to answer 60 of the 75 questions that will be based on current affairs, general knowledge, quantitative reasoning, application of basic mathematical concepts.

Can past year students apply for CUET 2022?

Yes, UGC has made it clear that if a university admits students who have passed class 12 exams in the past years in the 2022 session, they can also apply for CUET 2022.

Can students switch streams?

CUET has not restricted students from changing their stream, that is, a student who has completed Science stream in high school is welcome to take Humanities-based undergraduate courses. However, it is up to the students to make sure that in such case they check the admission criteria of their desired universities and make sure that they choose domain and language courses accordingly.
